How it works

Three things happen, and they are kept separate.

The conversation that captures. The record that holds. The environment that keeps it yours.

One. The conversation

You talk. An AI agent listens, and remembers everything.

Every few weeks you have a conversation, on your own time and in your own words. It might be about a decision you have just made, something you are still weighing, or an event you want set down before it fades.

The conversation is guided rather than free-form. The agent works from a brief you set with us at the outset, and within it decides what to ask, follows what you actually say, and presses where there is reasoning to be found. It draws out what you chose, why, what you gave up in choosing it, and what would have changed your mind. Where you are simply recording something, it takes that and stops. Depth is offered, never demanded.

Every so often it returns to something you said a year or two earlier and asks whether you still hold it. Your answer is recorded either way. That is the part no written record can do.

Two. The record

What accumulates is not a transcript.

Each conversation is resolved into structured entries: a position, the reasoning that supports it, the trade-off you accepted, and the date you said it. Every entry is traceable to the exchange that produced it, so anyone reading it later can see not just what you concluded but how you got there.

Where you are speaking on behalf of someone else. A child, a parent, anyone who cannot give their own account. That is marked as such and never merged with your own positions.

Nothing is overwritten. When a position changes, the earlier one remains, and the movement between them becomes part of the record.

The record is held in an open, documented format. You can export the whole of it at any time, and what you export is complete and readable without us.

Three. The environment

Your record is not a tenant in someone else's system.

Each member's record is held in a dedicated, isolated environment. It is not pooled with other members. It is not used to train anything. It is not a row in a shared database with your name in a column.

The conversational layer and the record are deliberately separate. The record is the asset and it stays in your environment. The model that talks to you is an interface over it. Replaceable, and designed from the outset to be replaced.

That separation is what makes the next step possible. We are moving members onto dedicated open-weight models, hosted within their own environment, so that no part of the service depends on a commercial provider's endpoint, terms, or continued existence. Members are told plainly which components are in place for them today and which are on the path.

What we do not do

Your record is never used to train a model.

Your record is never pooled with another member's.

Your record is never sold, licensed, or analysed for any purpose but your own.

We do not hold the only copy, and we do not hold it in a format only we can read.

We do not claim ownership of anything you say.

Afterwards

The record closes when you can no longer confirm what you think.

The service works by confirmation. Nothing enters the record as your position unless you have confirmed it is your position. That has a consequence which matters more than anything else on this page.

When you are gone, no confirmation is possible. The record therefore closes. Those who inherit it can read it, search it, and put questions to it. They cannot extend it, edit it, or arrive at answers you never gave.

Nobody can quietly make you more agreeable over three generations. That is not a policy we promise to keep. It is a property of how the thing is built.

Beginning

The first conversation is about what to record, not about recording.

Before anything is captured, we spend time establishing what this record is for and who it is for. Some members are writing to children who are already adults. Some are writing to people not yet born. Some are recording decades of knowledge about the care of one particular person. These produce different records.

From there, the practice is yours to set. Most members settle at one conversation a fortnight.
